They almost Broke My Marriage,” Mayor Lowe Opens Up About Hostility from Within the UDP.
Banjul, The Gambia – [2025]
In a candid and emotionally charged interview, the Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick Lowe, has revealed the depth of internal challenges she has endured within her own party, the United Democratic Party (UDP). Speaking to PYFC TV, Mayor Lowe disclosed that she has suffered repeated verbal abuse, including parental insults, and deliberate attempts to undermine her marriage—all allegedly at the hands of fellow UDP members.
"They almost broke my marriage," the Mayor stated. "I have been insulted multiple times by my own party members. Sadly, the party never condemned these actions, even though they’re quick to issue press releases in defense of others."
Mayor Lowe expressed her disappointment in the UDP leadership, citing their silence in the face of what she described as a rebellion by some party supporters against her.
When asked about growing suspicions of an internal faction within the party and allegations that she may be leaning toward the presidency, Mayor Lowe was firm in her response:
> “I do not belong to any camp. My loyalty lies in the United Democratic Party.”
Despite the hostility, Mayor Lowe reaffirmed her commitment to the UDP but called for introspection and unity within the party.
Her revelations come at a time when internal party dynamics are under increasing public scrutiny, raising questions about cohesion and leadership within one of The Gambia’s leading political parties.
