London/Newcastle, June 2025 – The Gambia High Commission in London has proudly celebrated Lamin Gibba, founder of Jerry J Clothing, for his outstanding contributions to fashion and community development. The recognition came during his highly anticipated “Born to Elevate” runway showcase held in Newcastle, United Kingdom.
Representing the High Commission at the event, Deputy Head of Mission Sulayman Suntou Touray commended Mr. Gibba for his creative brilliance in fusing vibrant African aesthetics with contemporary streetwear. “Fashion is more than clothing; it is a language of heritage and identity,” Mr. Touray remarked. “Lamin has turned his personal story into a platform that uplifts others.”
Originally from The Gambia, Lamin Gibba’s inspiring journey began in his aunt’s tailoring shop and has since evolved into a fashion venture that resonates across borders. His label, Jerry J Clothing, not only celebrates African culture but also serves as a beacon of youth empowerment.
Beyond fashion, Mr. Gibba has remained deeply committed to community engagement. He has made generous sports equipment donations to his former school in The Gambia and pioneered wellness projects such as the “Skate Jam” in Gateshead—an initiative that promotes mental health awareness and social unity among youth.
The event garnered strong support from members of the Gambian diaspora in Northern England (Gamnorth), reflecting the community’s immense pride in one of its own. The Gambia High Commission reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Gambians abroad, fostering creativity, and strengthening international networks that spotlight Gambian talent on the global stage.
